ABSTRACT
Traffic accidents have high mortality and morbidity properties are an important
problem in Turkey as other countries. In this study, the forensic reports of cases who applied to Forensic Medicine Department
of Celal Bayar University Hospital in 24 months between January 01, 2003 and December 31, 2004 were evaluated in the response
of to determining the rates of traffic accidents among cases, the types of accidents, months of accidents and properties of
the cases.
Percent 40.4 (n=174) of the 431 cases which arranged medico-legal reports in
Polyclinic of Forensic Medicine injured by traffic accidents. 126 (72.4 %) of cases was man and 48 (27.6 %) was woman. Their
age mean was 29.1 years old (SD: 0.2).
The 431 cases injured in 158 traffic accidents. The most of accidents occurred
in summer months (n=75, 43.1%). In mostly of the accidents, vehicles had been impacted to another vehicle(s) (30.8 %, n=40).
The vehicles which thickly involved to accidents were automobiles (59.1 %; n=107). There were multiple traumas in surplus
than half of victims which injured during traffic accidents (n= 108; 54.8 %).
Consequently, for diminish to least level of traffic accidents that tens of
people have dead or have injured everyday we think that precautions including to the changing of transport preferences, the
increasing of education about traffic, the structural improving of highways, the developing of vehicle safe and the correction
of deficiency of laws must be evaluate all together.
