MORTALITY CRITERIONS AND CAUSES OF DEATH IN CITY CENTER OF ISPARTA

ABSTRACT
Aim: The definition of mortality criterions, expected life spells and causes
of deaths in Centrum of Isparta in 2002 year.
Method: This study is retrospective, descriptive a registration investigation.
The expected life spell was calculated the using of life table. The causes of deaths were defined by evaluation of knowledge
in the registration of deaths and patient files.
Results: In Centrum of Isparta, the death rate which standardized according
to ages was calculated as 3.4% and the excepted life spell in birth was calculated as 75.9 years. Among hospital death rate,
clinical death rate was less than 3.5% and clear death rate was less than 2.5%. Among the deaths occurred in Centrum of Isparta
(n=594), 6.4% was less than 5 years old and 92.0% of them was belong to less than 1 years old babies. 32 of the baby deaths
less than 1 years old was neonatal period (24 early neonatal and 8 late neonatal) and 3 of them had dead post neonatal period.
For the Centrum of Isparta, baby death rate was calculated as 19.1% (neonatal 17.5%; post neonatal 1.6%) and child death rate
less than 5 years old was calculated as 20.8%. In the evaluation of the causes of deaths, the first three causes of them was defined as perinatal diseases and
other reasons, congenital reasons, and anoxic- hypoxic reasons for children less than 5 years old and cardiac diseases, carcinomas
and cerebro-vascular diseases for children more than 5 years old.
Consequence: In Centrum of Isparta, the mortality criterions and expected life
spells in birth was defined that they is better than Turkey’s mean. The causes of deaths and the hospital death rates
was show similarity to Turkey’s data.
