ABSTRACT

Fail from high cases usually generated from accidental events. İn this study, we aimed to evaluate demo-graphic features and trauma profile of accidental fail from high cases who admitted to SDU Medical Faculty Hospital, Emergency Service.

Medical reports of cases who admitted as accidental fail from high in 3 years period between 2001-2003 were examined retrospectively according to age, sex, wound date, wounded region of the body and the clinics which they had medical treatment.

147 (70%) of 210 accidental fail from high cases were male and 63(30%) were female. The age of cases differed from 9 months to 76 years, the average of age was 26.65(±21.97) years. The highest number of cases was between 0-10 years old with 66(31.5%) cases according to age distribution. 120(57.1%) of cases admitted to hospital in Summer (June-July-August-September) and most of the wounds 92(43.81 %) cases were recorded as result of home accidents. 75(35.7%) cases treated in emergency service, 134(73.8%) cases treated in clinics and 1(0.5%) case has been carried to the emergency service as dead. Most of the traumatic lesions in 69(32.9%) cases were recorded as skin and soft tissue injuries, whereas in 134(63.8%) cases, injuries localized in one or more than one region of the body were also recorded besides the soft tissue injuries.

It is thought that the number of fail from high cases which were mostly in childhood because of recklessness, improvidence and negligence could be decreased if preventive measures had been taken and parents had been well educated.

Key Words: Fail from high, accident, emergency service.
