ABSTRACT
Introduction: An important view of traffic accidents is preparing forensic reports
for legal investigations as well as medical insult. The reports of forensic specialist request from the court generally consist
medical evaluations. In this study the properties of forensic reports of Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of
Forensic Medicine were evaluated for the importance of judgment.
Materials and Method: All the written material of 542 traffic accident cases
that were sent for forensic reports between January 1997 and December 2001 were evaluated for age, sex, job, wound type, mean
report time, report type properties.
Results: 388 were male, 154 were female. The most frequent wounded people were
between 31-40 years, mean age is 31,9. The first emergency care was done in State Hospital in 277, in University Hospital
in 134, in SSK Hospital in 70 people. In 33.4% the records were insufficient. In 15.9% in car accident, in 14% out of car
and in 3% motorbike accidents happened. Soft tissue injuries were most frequent (15.9%), head and neck in 14.2% and vertebral
injury in %2.4% followed them.
The reports request by the court were 68% definite reports for punishing problems,
as well as 31.9% for invalidity reports.
Conclusion: The medical help is very important for the traffic accident injuries.
The first examination is very important for the definite forensic reports for punishing judgments or for invalidity indemnity.
In this report the properties of forensic specialist reports were evaluated. The forensic report demands must be as soon as
possible so that the reports could be sufficient and effective.
