ABSTRACT:
Besides their preventive and curing duties, physicians are in charge of medico-legal cases, as well. Examination of
medico-legal cases and drawing up forensic reports are important tasks of forensic medicine practices.
Since the structure of forensic medicine and the number of forensic medicine experts is insufficient in our country,
the vast majority of forensic cases are handled by physicians without forensic expertise. Due to insufficient pre-and post
graduate education in forensic medicine, physicians are reluctant or concerned in drawing up forensic reports. Deficiencies
and errors in forensic reports are often the natural consequences of these negativities.
Errors in forensic reports, which are very important in defining the relevant law and related penalty with which the
perpetrator will be accused and charged prolong the trial process and lead to negativities.
This article aims to show the aspects physicians’ should regard while drawing up forensic reports and to stress
the importance of standardization of forensic reports in forensic medicine practices and trials.
