THE EVALUATION OF CHILDHOOD TRAUMAS BY PEDIATRIC SURGERY DEPARTMENT: TEN YEARS RETROSPECTIVE STUDY.

ABSTRACT
Trauma is the principal cause of death in childhood. Most of the injury
is a frequent cause of preventable death. Childhood traumas differ from adult traumas with the specific features. Type of
traumas change according to gender and age-groups. Female to male ratio also changes with seasons. In our study, we aimed
to explore different features of childhood traumas.
Totally 339 patients have been evaluated retrospectively for the age,
gender, seasons, trauma types and time of discharge. We also checked for the any relation between trauma type and age, and
also between trauma type and gender.
Totally 112 female and 227 male patients were included the study and
female to male ratio was 0,49. The mean age of the cases was 7,04 ± 4,72. When we check the age-groups, most of cases were
in 2-7 age-group. According to trauma type, the most common one was motor-vehicle accidents (n=113, % 33,3), followed by accidental
falls (n=91, % 26,8) The most common trauma season was summer (% 44,8), winter was the rarest trauma season (% 7,7). Totally
4 patient was died.
To prevent and manage childhood traumas properly, we need to learn
features of children with the aspect of anatomy, physiology and behaviors.
