Gurpinar T, Asirdizer M.
Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Surgical Medical Sciences. 2006; 2(50): 56-62.
ABSTRACT:
The intoxication risk has remarkably increased due to the rapid growth of the number of
chemicals as well as the drugs in parallel to contemporary technological developments.
It has been reported that the intoxication related events represents 0.46%-1.57% of the
total Emergency Room applications which also constitutes 7%-17.1% of the whole judicial events. The incomplete or inaccurate
diagnosis and/or treatments in the intoxication events may cause doctors face “malpractice claims” and the inexact
application of the judicial procedures may cause starting legal process against them which may end up with the doctors being
accused severely.
In this article it has been aimed to review the diagnosis and treatment procedures that
the doctors should follow in the case of intoxication events as well as their judicial responsibilities.
Key words: Poisoning,
Diagnosis, Emergency Treatment, Forensic Toxicology.
