ABSTRACT
Deaths due to cyanide poisoning rank among those to be diagnosed most difficult
in autopsies, because of the lack of specific findings. In the Mortuary Section of the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul,
13704 cases were submitted to medico legal autopsy in the years 1986-1993; twelve cases among them were attributed to cyanide
poisoning.
In the present study, a distribution of these twelve cases according to age,
sex, profession, origin, in take of the poison was performed. A classification of autopsy findings was also classified, fallowed
by a detailed discussion of other important topics of relevance.
